1. LED performance

LED light emitting devices are the most critical and life-related components of the display screen. For LED, we pay attention to the following indicators: attenuation characteristics, water vapor permeability characteristics, and UV resistance.

Luminance attenuation is an inherent characteristic of LED. For a display screen with a design life of 5 years, if the brightness attenuation of the LED used is 50% in 5 years, the attenuation margin should be considered in the design, otherwise the display performance cannot meet the standard after 5 years; The stability of the attenuation index is also very important. If the attenuation has exceeded 50% in 3 years, it means that the life of this screen will end ahead of time.

The display screen used outdoors is often eroded by moisture in the air. The LED light-emitting chip will cause stress change or electrochemical reaction to cause device failure when it is exposed to water vapor. Under normal circumstances, LED light-emitting chips are wrapped by epoxy resin and are not corroded. Some LED devices with design defects or material and process defects have poor sealing performance, and water vapor easily enters the device through the pin gap or the gap between the epoxy resin and the shell interface, resulting in rapid device failure, which is called “dead light” in the industry.

Under the irradiation of ultraviolet light, the properties of LED colloid and support material will change, which will lead to device cracking and affect the life of LED. Therefore, the ultraviolet resistance of LED used outdoors is also one of the important indicators.
